Maratha Vidya Prasarak Samaj, Nashik is among the oldest and the premier Educational Institutes of Nashik. The Institute was established in 1914 as boarding with 5 Students and a grant of Rs. 1000/- from the then Chhatrapti of Kolhapur, Shri. Shahu Maharaj. This 97 years old renowned educational institute is in the jurisdiction of University of Pune. At present the total strength of the students in its 350 branches is 1,81,683 and total numbers of employees is 7,478. The Annual budget is Rs. 275 Crores.
Inspired by the life and work of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Rajashri Shahu Maharaj, Chhatrapati of Kolhapur, a young and devoted team of social workers and educationists viz. Karmveer Raosaheb Thorat, Karmveer Annashaeb Murkute, Karmveer Kakasaheb Wagh, Karmveer Bhausaheb Hire, Karmveer Ganpat Dada More, Late D.R. Bhosale, Late Kirtiwan Nimbalkar and Late Vithoba Patil kandalkar laid the foundation of M.V.P. Samaj, Nashik.
Today it is the biggest Educational institute of Nashik District and has its own Colleges, Schools, Hostels, Ashram Shalas and Printing Press that cater to the educational needs of the urban and rural population. The best of Nashik’s Colleges viz. the biggest Medical College in North Maharashtra with 750 beds, Training College of Nursing, College of Social Work, College of Education (D.Ed & B.Ed), Physiotherapy College, Arts, Sicence & Commerce college, Institute of Management Research and Training, Law College, I.T.I. College, College of Engineering, College of Architecture, College of Agriculture, College of Pharmacy etc. offereing all kinds of Certificate, Diploma, Graduation, Post Graduation and Doctorate Courses and research centers are run by the M.V.P. The management is elected by free and fair democratic procedures after every five years. It has its own constitution. A Central Office setup is equiped with an Executive Council, Education Officers, Estate Manager, Engineers, and Clerical Staff etc. Regular in service training sessions for Heads of Institutes, Teachers, Clerks are organized.
